About AtheistExile.com
AtheistExile.com is operated by me, Jim Ashby. I retired, at the age of 52, in July of 2006. I then expatriated from the U.S to the Philippines.
I've since married a wonderful woman and bought a house for us and our 3 kids, 2 servants, 2 dogs and 2 cats.
I began blogging, about 18 months ago on Yahoo. After about 8 or 9 months, my blog started generating a lot of hits.
But I've been getting fed up with Yahoo. They abandoned their photo hosting and quit fixing bugs (because they're working on an "improved" version of Yahoo). One of those bugs is their page counter . . . which rarely works (i.e. actually appears on screen). The real clencher was when they sent me an email because of a complaint from somebody who didn't like my (mostly) anti-religion blog. I examined their terms of service but could see no violation. When I asked them for an explanation, they gave no details but did mention the "spirit" of their terms of service.
I don't believe in spirits :-)
So I decided to go it alone. Besides . . . it's about time I learn how to do this web page stuff. Anyway, I settled on the name, AtheistExile.com, because all the names I REALLY wanted were taken already.
This site reflects my belief that religion is more than merely wrong . . . it's the most persistently divisive influence in the history of civilization. If you doubt that, just watch CNN.
On an individual level, religion's influence is usually personal and private. But religion doesn't scale well. Historically, the damage done by religion (especially Abrahamic religions) is directly proportional to the number of its adherents and scope of authority.
Of the core themes repeated the most here, the one that bears the most repeating is "The Fantasy of the Supernatural". The supernatural does not exist. Even if it did, by definition it's beyond our knowing -- so it would effectively be no different to us than not existing at all. You'll find this theme fleshed out in the Member Essays and the AtheistExile blog.
While I understand that some people take any criticism of their religion as a personal insult, I'm not responsible for their insecurities. I will NOT couch my words with niceties but I will avoid spurious remarks.
Whether or not you agree with the statements and opinions expressed at this site, please give me your thoughts at the AtheistExile.com blog or through the Contact Us feedback form.
